I'm So Happy You're Here!

I’m Julia!

An ice cap addicted, moss touching, frizzy haired mom of 3 little wild humans who when not behind the camera loves nothing more than being barefoot, in the garden humming some unrecognizable tune. walking around a forest, or hyper-fixating on whatever new hobby has caught my eye.

When something captures my attention and heart with such ferocity the way birth and telling birth stories has i cant help but make it a part of my identity and spend a lot of my time obsessing over it.. See: staying up till 1am on the regular lost down a rabbit hole of birth content and education..

My Journey to motherhood was not what I thought it would be. I experienced both unexplained infertility and multiple miscarriages before meeting my eldest Son in 2020 After a Birth that went nothing like how i had envisioned, an Induction due to pre-eclampsia and a shoulder dystocia, i was then left to navigate my first postpartum season along side the whole world shutting down. While this period was full of many challenges it brought out a strength and confidence within my self i never knew existed.  It ignited a deep passion for wanting to showcase the rawness and struggles that perfectly co-exist and ultimately are part of  the magic and beauty that encompasses our motherhood journeys.  In 2021 i completed my Doula certification to pair with my passion for birth photography but ultimately decided in 2024 to discontinue taking doula clients and solely focus on documenting every raw , divine, magical detail of birth in a way i just wasn’t able to while also dividing my attention between photographing and being a doula. Even though i no longer am a practicing Doula ill always feel a little like a one at heart and you can often find me throwing towels in the dryer during a home birth or sending along labour, birth and postpartum resources to moms when asked!

Having had both hospital and home births myself – one of which was accidently unassisted ( story for another time)  I have a deep reverence for the sacredness of bringing a baby into this world and  appreciation of how not only each body and family is unique but each and every birth is unlike another. The emotions, the smallest details, the struggles that are overcome, and the people who are there with you supporting you all tell a beautiful story worth celebrating and reminiscing on for the rest of your life.

I feel incredibly honored each and every time i am invited into a birth space and its not lost on me how lucky i am to be asked to document such a life changing part of your life.
